A Dynamic Collective of Local Artists

Ida Tong

My current work explores the concept and the meaning of futuristic-philosophical art. As my wild imagination takes a turn on artificial intelligence (AI), I am telling a story in each painting that AI is becoming a bigger part of our lives. From having a smartphone to self-driving cars, technology is everywhere whether we are ready or not. We can choose to embrace it or to fear that AI is here to destroy our humanity. Nevertheless, I believe that AI is a tool and so is art, it can be beautiful, playful, valuable, and didactic, all at the same time.

Ida Tong is a member of the Kitchener Waterloo Society of Artists (KWSA), the Central Ontario Art Association (COAA), and the Art$Pay. She has received a few artistic awards such as Allan Fleming Design Award, Heather's Choice Award (2018), and the Best of Show Award (2018). After she graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design University, Ida went to Florence, venturing for art in all aspects, from the rich Italian culture to Painting Restoration between 1991 and 1995. Since 1998, she taught art to children and adults in Toronto for 15 years. Now living a quieter life in New Hamburg (since 2015), Ida dedicates her time to innovate a new art in her paintings.
