Marilyn Batte
oil, acrylic and mixed media

Batte’s passion for painting parallels her passion for teaching; she is an artist and a teacher. Raised in Kitchener, she studied architecture and art history at Carleton University, and then education at Queen's University. Her teaching took her abroad; there she began painting. Many of her compositions are inspired by the landscapes of Egypt where she lived for ten years. While in Singapore, Batte began to paint a series based on the orchids found there. Her current work is both portrait and figurative, exploring the Archetypes, inspired from her time in Germany.

Her initial creation was photorealistic oil painting. The distinct detail of her subject matter created striking compositions. Influenced by her broad teaching experience, Batte is now using acrylic and mixed media to create more expressionistic and contemporary paintings.

She is a widely exhibited artist. Since 1993, Batte has shown her works in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Her paintings are in private international collections or in her studio in Canada.
