Laurie gravitated to stained glass all her life – from contemplating church windows as a child to purchasing the ubiquitous stained glass suncatchers as a teenager. In 1996, with the serious business of adulthood, marriage and child-rearing well established (and thoroughly enjoyed), Laurie acquired a room of her own – a dedicated work space with a large and sturdy work bench. Here she began learning stained glass basics and quickly found that, as with most things, plenty of practice and the material itself “teaches the artist”.

In 2007 she established Grand River Glassworks, Kitchener-Waterloo’s newest stained glass teaching studio and retail store. Located in the same building as her family-owned business, Fritz Electric Inc., Laurie offers original stained and fused glass art; quality instruction for all skill levels; glass, tools, and supplies for sale; strong technique and product knowledge; and a warm smile and welcoming atmosphere.
