Jane has spent her entire adult life involved in some vein of artistic endeavour. As a teenager, Jane enjoyed drawing. In the late 80’s she began painting in acrylics as a decorative artist. In 2001 she tried painting in watercolour and it became a passion. Her love of watercolour is based on the fact that the medium moves like no other - “it simply flows from your brush and essentially does part of the work for the artist.” Recently, she has been exploring other mediums such as pastel, acrylic on canvas, and oils. Jane enjoys painting loosely as well as painstakingly in order to accomplish realistic images, and she incorporates strong, bright colours. Her subjects include landscapes, florals, still life, animals and children’s portraits. Jane’s method usually derives from an inspired image she has captured through her own photography. Her garden provides her with a wealth of material and travel photos are always an inspiration. Masking fluid is sometimes used to protect the white areas of the painting and glazing with several colours is her way of achieving realism.

Jane’s work has been accepted in many juried shows and she has studied with a number of local artists including Bert Williams.
