ACRYLIC PAINTING
Nicole Waddick will demonstrate some of the different capabilites of acrylic paints. The workshop is suitable for beginners and for artists wanting to expand their skills.

     
Tone & Colour
Six-Week Workshop   
Learn a variety of ways to use contemporary art materials to reinvent the old masters' technique of applying transparent glazes over a monochromatic underpainting. Learn step-by-step about acrylic mediums and pigments; colour mixing; different painting surfaces; how to make smooth gradations; and combining acrylics with charcoal, conté and pastels. Suitable for all subjects and skill levels.

Abstraction: Art History & Hands-On Workshop
Two-Day Workshop   
Study artwork by famous abstract painters with art historian Carolyn Young on the first day of the workshop. On the second day, learn to create abstract paintings with artist Nicole Waddick.

COLOURED PENCIL
Nicole Waddick will demonstrate the versatility of coloured pencils when used in combination with other media.

     
Coloured Pencil Techniques
Learn to combine coloured pencils with other media to make images in less time than with the pencils alone. Learn to take advantage of the unique properties of coloured pencils to make soft gradations, hard edges and crisp lines. Use coloured pencils with soft pastels, oil pastels and alkyd resin to make painterly drawings. This class is suitable to all artistic levels. Most materials required for the class are included in the $10 supply fee.

Encaustic Beginner - LEVEL ONE
Introduces encaustic, basic fusing techniques, safety issues, use of collage
materials, layering and making your own encaustic medium.

Encaustic Beyond Collage - LEVEL TWO
Covers the use of photocopy image transfers, using gold/copper/aluminum leaf,
use of oil sticks, pastels, ironing and other hot tools, and more.

Texture Galore - LEVEL THREE
Learn about masking off areas, building texture using dry brushing, stencils,
stamps, dry wall spackle and found objects.

Five-Week In-Depth Encaustic Course
Covers the basic techniques and safety practices of painting with encaustic,
as well as gouging, layering, collaging with paper, found objects, photocopy image
transfers, using gold/copper/aluminum leaf, use of oil sticks, pastels, ironing and
other hot tools, and more.
Also covers special techniques using stencils, stamps,
texture and found objects.

6:30 to 9:30 pm, Wednesdays from January 25th to February 22nd

Saturday Workshops
Enjoy a bright and friendly afternoon at Grand River Glassworks and explore the fascinating world of fused glass. The basic knowledge and techniques you learn will enable you make a range of objects: fused pendants, funky fused plates, charming tack-fused vignettes - the possibilities are endless and the creativity is energizing.
